THE LEVEL OF THE MARSH HAS ALARMANTLY DROPPED
In a recent report, different experts assure that the driest summer in the last decade is the result of a year in which the water has fallen little and badly. The water stored in the reservoirs has already reached the minimum of the last decade, standing in the 46,5 %, in front of 61,5 % of the average for this period in the last ten years.
Half of the reservoirs in the 16 watersheds are below the 50 % of its capacity. The situation is “pre emergency” for basins such as the Tagus (al 44 %), on which the Segura depends (al 20 %) Y “very complicated” for the Guadalquivir (al 39 %) or the Guadalete-Barbate (45 %). In 2016 there was a 64 % of dammed water this week and only two basins, the Andalusian Mediterranean and the Segura, they were below the 50 %; in 2015 the average was 61 % and only those of Segura and Júcar were slightly less than half.
The Aemet data show that the amounts of accumulated water do not exceed normal values in much of the western half and interior of the peninsula., Navarra, The Rioja, Teruel and various areas of Catalonia.
According to experts, this fall will be critical, because if it is not humid, there will be serious restrictions on irrigation in 2018 to ensure supply. So, each day that passes after September that is dry will increase the possibility of extreme drought.
