The Spanish Association of Municipalities of the Olive Tree (Aemo) and Deoleo, the world's number one oil company, have awarded the Los Remedios Cooperative a prestigious award. This is the second prize for the Best Environmental Management of Almazara in Spain, framed in the I Contest for the Best Environmental Management of Olivar and Almazara.
The members of the jury wanted to recognize the environmental commitment that Los Remedios has maintained for years, authentic engine of the regional economy and emblem of ecological and sustainable production in the Sierra de Cádiz, with an organic oil brand, Oro Nature, fully established in the market.
The management of by-products carried out in the Cooperative has also been valued, which, since the construction of its new facilities, has opted for composting as the best solution to release alperujo, processed next to olive leaf, the waters from washing the olives and the manure from livestock activities. The use of this organic compost is contributing significantly to enriching the fields of the Cádiz sierra with organic matter.. further, the olive leaf and the pulp of the olive from the process of grinding for the manufacture of microsilos for animal feed.
As an outstanding contribution to the sustainability of the company, It should be noted that Los Remedios has a self-consumption photovoltaic plant. On the other hand, In this past campaign, the commercialization of firewood from the olive groves of the associates began as biomass, providing this by-product with added value and thus avoiding its burning.
From Aemo they have highlighted the work of raising awareness of the Cooperative towards its members, promoting ecological and sustainable olive growing for years, a type of agriculture that, in addition to being favorable for the environment, is also the only solution for the future profitability of the olive grove in mountainous regions.
