GREEN MOSQUITO IN ALMOND AND PISTACHIO

The green mosquito (Empoasca  spp) It is a small, light green insect shaped like a cicada (Cicadelido) that measures between 3-4 mm length.

It is a highly polyphagous insect that affects a multitude of crops such as vine, naranjo, Mandarin, pepper, peach tree, cotton, beetroot, sunflower, alfalfa, artichoke…

Several species have been described that are included within the genusEmpoasca, howE. retiring, E. decipiens, E. vitis, E. solani, etc

Adults and nymphs are similar in appearance. Thenymphs they are smaller than adults and have not yet developed their wings.

Thanks to its sucking mouthpart, suck the sap out of the conducting vessels (floema) in the main nerves.

Cause leaf damage, that can cause apremature defoliation and oneloss of vigor in plant growth, with theconsequent economic losses for the farmer.

To detect this pest,yellow chromotropic traps sticky that determine pest volume and behavior, since these insects are attracted to them. The time of control is in June and the end of July.

Symptoms in Almond: Small size leaves, curling of the leaves with a yellowish hue and necrotic edges. Delay and brake in the development of the tree.
