For many farmers leaving replacement Iberian sows is becoming a real ordeal, due to ignorance of the obligations that must be fulfilled when doing this whole process.
The last important change of the Quality Standard for the Iberian Pig forced farmers to have all Iberian females registered in the herd book. During a period of a couple of years, the sows could be included in the book by means of the morphological assessment of the animal by the AECERIBER technicians., so that any sow that met the breed prototype could enter without problems. But that period is over and now sows have to be daughters of sows registered in the herd book., and that requires being a direct partner of AECERIBER, or indirectly through our Cooperative.
But in any case you have to be clear about the responsibilities of a farmer, and perhaps the most important is to GUARANTEE THE GENEALOGY OF THE PLAYERS. That is to say, we have to be absolutely clear about who is the father and mother of each animal destined for breeding. This is the big problem our farmers are having.
The first obligation to leave breeders begins by communicating the mating of the sows. If it is by natural riding, you have to know which boar covers each sow, and if semen is used, it is necessary to clearly know which semen has been used in each sow. The mating part must be completed and communicated to AECERIBER before the piglets are born. It has 114 days to do it. There is a communication model, called part of Covering where you put which boar covers which sows. Eye, that in natural riding the maximum number of sows that a boar can cover is 15.
The second obligation is to report the birth of the piglets. This has a term of 60 days from birth. And the most important thing is that before weaning the future breeders, an individual numbered tag must be attached to the piglets., so that when the birth communication is made it is explained that such a sow that was covered with such a boar has had so many piglets numbered from such to which number.
Once weaned, this ear tag will allow you to maintain traceability, when knowing who that suckling is, who is his mother and who is his father. The main mistakes that farmers make that are causing the sows not to be registered in the book are the following:
– Communications out of date. Be it cover or birth.
– Covers with semen 2 boars. They are not allowed, you have to know who the father is.
– Lack of traceability. If the Aeceriber inspector arrives and sees that the piglets already weaned and separated from the mother do not have individual ear tags, will not allow the entry of animals in the book, Well, you can't check who the mother is (even if you know who the father is).
As many know, The Cooperative is a member of AECERIBER, and therefore our farmers can belong to this Association. It is possible to centralize all communications with them through Los Remedios. Likewise, from our offices we can help you to comply with all these mentioned procedures.
