WE HAVE A SPECIALIZED TECHNICIAN TO ADVISE YOU ON THE CROP

La S.C.A. Los Remedios-Picasat organized, together with the Callet Association, the II Technical Conference on the Cultivation of the Pistachero, specifically on Training Pruning. The event took place in the past 4 March before some 40 assistants, grouping some 100 hectares of pistachios.
The presentation was developed by D. Julian Guerrero Villasenor, from the company Omnia Pistacho, Ph.D. Agronomist Engineer, with extensive experience both in Pistachio Research at the "El Chaparrillo" Center, as in the advice of farms.
During the session, all those questions raised by the farmers were resolved, not only in relation to pruning but also with any incidence of the Pistachero, like pests, diseases, active materials, etc.
It is considered that the cultivation of pistachio can be a good alternative to mountain areas where the olive grove obtains lower profit margins. On the other hand, it should be taken into account that the tasks required (harvest, floor, etc.) they are not coincident in time with those of the olive grove, so it allows diversification.
Market prospects are good, because currently Europe imports the 90 % of the pistachio it consumes. The largest producers worldwide are Iran, with 300.000 hectares and United States, with 100.000, both away from our environment. In our continent only Spain and some other southern country have the climatic conditions that this crop needs.
From this space we take the opportunity to remember that the Los Remedios-Picasat Cooperative has an Agricultural Engineer for its members in order to advise and inform them on everything they need for their implementation. You can find it in our Olvera offices every Wednesday morning, or by making an appointment for another day.
