THE QUALITY OF THE OILS HAS BEEN HIGH, THANKS TO THE GOOD PHYTOSANITARY STATE OF THE FRUIT

Balance of the Olive campaign 2017/2018.

Once the olive harvesting campaign is over, it is time to take stock.
The campaign has been influenced by the lack of rainfall during the past spring and autumn, which has greatly conditioned both the normal development of the fruit (small olives) as the returns, by not dissolving the nutrients to be able to assimilate the olive tree and incorporate them into the oil formation processes (lipogenesis). These events have influenced the campaign in three ways:

Ø There has been a decrease in the harvest of 20% regarding the last campaigns.
Ø The yields at the beginning of the campaign have been lower than usual.
ØThe ripening of the olives has been delayed compared to other years, which together with the fact that this season the olive trees of the “hard verdial” variety have had a good harvest., has made the campaign last until the end of February.

This last point has also had to do with another remarkable fact, how has been the staggering in the entrance of olives, which in turn has made it possible to avoid waiting queues in the discharge and that the fruit has been ground in less than 24 hours, with the improvement that this entails in the quality of the extracted oil and in the maintenance of the extraction machinery.

Regarding the quality of the oils, thanks to the fact that the olives have been kept in excellent phytosanitary conditions, it can be said that it has been very good, obtaining good scores in the analyzes carried out in different laboratories.
